BILL BRADLEY

Bill Bradley has been a national leader for more than thirty years and is well known for his hard work, intelligence, candor and vision. From winning an Olympic gold medal in basketball in the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, to representing New Jersey in the United States Senate from 1979 to 1997, to running for President in 2000, Bill Bradley exemplifies America’s best qualities.
Bill Bradley was a three-time All-American basketball player at Princeton University and graduated with honors in 1965 with a degree in American History. He was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University, where he earned a graduate degree after studying politics, philosophy, and economics.
Bradley went on to be a star professional basketball player for the New York Knicks from 1967 to 1977. During that time the Knicks won two National Basketball Association championships (1970 and 1973). In recognition of his contribution to the sport, Bill Bradley was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1982.
Whether passing legislation or shaping national opinion, Bradley focused on large-scale reform while serving in the Senate from 1979 to 1997. He was the driving force behind the Tax Reform Act of 1986, which lowered tax rates for millions of Americans and closed billions of dollars of special interest loopholes. He advocated expanded global trade and federal budget priorities that bolstered the national economy and met critical human needs.
Bradley is managing director of Allen & Company, Incorporated; serves as chief outside adviser to McKinsey & Company’s non-profit and is Honorary Executive Chairman of the Save Ellis Island fundraising initiative. From 1997 to 1999, he was a senior advisor and vice chairman of the International Council of J.P. Morgan & Company Incorporated. During that time he also served as an essayist for CBS Evening News, and as a visiting professor at Stanford University, Notre Dame University, and the University of Maryland. Currently, he has a new radio show American Voices on Sirius Satellite Radio.
Bradley has authored five books on American politics, culture, and economy. In 1996, Bradley authored a best-selling memoir, Time Present, Time Past, about his life as a Senator and his travels throughout the country. In the fall of 1998, his book of basketball inspired essays, Values of the Game, was published and went on to be a New York Times best seller. Bradley is also the author of The Journey From Here, The Fair Tax, and Life on the Run.
Bradley has been married since 1974 to his wife, Ernestine, a German-born professor of German and comparative literature. They live in New Jersey with their daughter, Theresa Anne.
DR. IRWIN KELLNER
Dr. Irwin Kellner holds the Augustus B. Weller Distinguished Chair of Economics at Hofstra University, and is the author of Hofstra University’s Economic Report. Dr. Kellner also serves as chief economist for North Fork Bancorporation and for MarketWatch.com, the leading interactive financial news Web site.
Widely quoted in the print media as well as the author of many articles dealing with economics, business and banking, Dr. Kellner frequently addresses groups of business people and community leaders, and appears regularly on Cablevision's News 12 Long Island, as well as on other programs both here and abroad.
Dr. Kellner is on the board of the North Shore Health System. In the public sector, he served a term as Chairman of Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi’s Council of Economic Advisers. Previously, he was a member of New York State Comptroller H. Carl McCall’s Economic Advisory Committee, New York City's Economists Roundtable, the New York District Advisory Council of the Small Business Administration Region II, and the Long Island Regional Transportation Advisory Committee of the New York State Senate.
Dr. Kellner also belongs to several professional organizations. A past president of the Forecasters Club of New York and governor of the Money Marketeers, he also was president of the New York Association of Business Economists -- the largest economic organization in New York. Among his other professional memberships are the American Economic Association, American Statistical Association, and the National Association for Business Economics.
A native New Yorker, Dr. Kellner received his B.A. and M.A. in economics from Brooklyn College and his Ph.D. in economics from The New School for Social Research. He also has a Doctor of Humane Letters bestowed by Hofstra University and a Doctor of Laws conferred by St. Joseph's College. In addition, he is a recipient of the Distinguished Leadership Award from Touro College, the Human Relations Award from the American Jewish Committee, the Humanitarian Award from the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and the Diabetes Research Institute, the Gary Sherman Humanitarian Award from the North Shore Health System and the Champion of Liberty Award from the Anti-Defamation League.
Dr. Kellner is one of the few to have been named an Honorary Alumnus of Hofstra University, and recently was named one of the 100 most influential Long Islanders by Long Island Business News. He resides in Port Washington, NY, where he has been a member of the Village Planning Board since 1972.
